Kinship: Idiom of Hierarchical Relations in Côte d’Ivoire
On the basis of an study carried out on a firm in Abidjan, and taking as an illustration the path of one of the workers, the author shows how the idiom of kinship conveys hierarchical relations in the presentday Ivoirien society. In the first place, kinship groups are dispersed through the hierarchies of the global social space and are subject to great strains. Symetrically, the contradictions created by the links of dependence within the space of kinship provide the main register in which are interpreted the antagonisms and the conflicts connected with different forms of domination (the work company, the State).
